High-Quality Service, Real Social Value: Our partnership with Stockland

In the social enterprise sector, we often talk about the challenge of moving from a small-scale initiative to a sustainable, large-scale commercial operation. Today, we are incredibly excited to share a major milestone that proves exactly what is possible when corporate Australia leans into social procurement.

We have just released our latest case study video, showcasing our transformative partnership with Stockland. This has been a true evolution, moving from an initial grant to a fully integrated, procurement-led commercial operation.

From Capability Catalyst to Commercial Powerhouse

Every great partnership needs a starting point, and ours began with a $20,000 CARE Foundation grant from Stockland. At the time, that funding served as a crucial capability catalyst. It allowed us at Good Spaces (a proud division of Good Cycles) to build the operational readiness we needed to survive and thrive. This included electrifying our toolsets and expanding our capacity to service massive, large-scale commercial developments.

But we did not want to just be grant recipients; we wanted to prove our worth as a trusted commercial supplier. Stockland shared that exact vision.

Through deep, intentional alignment across Stockland’s CARE Foundation, procurement, and development teams, we transitioned completely out of the grant cycle and directly into their live construction and asset management schedules. Today, Stockland is officially Good Spaces’ largest contract. This scale supports our operational footprint across Stockland’s current portfolio of 18 communities in Victoria, including the Aurora and Cloverton estates, where our crews deliver everything from site maintenance to environmental management.

“It proves to the business world that a social enterprise is a smart alternative to a standard contractor, demonstrating that we can deliver high-quality services at the same time as social value.”

Kirra Johnson, CEO, Good Cycles

Why it works

Moving from a grant recipient to a Tier 1 development supply chain was not a standard, transactional process. It required deliberate, co-designed innovation from both organisations:

  • Systemic Corporate Advocacy: Stockland leaders actively championed our model internally, adapting traditional corporate procurement processes to seamlessly onboard a social enterprise. They supported our growth through skilled volunteering and capacity-building mentorship, which gave us massive industry credibility.
  • Our Commercial Excellence: We evolved by upskilling our crews, refining our operational scheduling, and aligning our services directly with the strict commercial, safety, and sustainability standards required by a Tier 1 developer.
  • The Blended Workforce Model: On-site, our teams balance highly experienced industry professionals with young people coming through our Youth Employment Program. This ensures that Stockland receives elite, high-quality asset management services, while young people gain real, paid experience in a live commercial environment rather than a simulated classroom.

“We’re not just a social enterprise, we’re actually an organisation that’s taken seriously for the job that we actually do. We deliver quality, and we deliver a service. When you’re going home at the end of the day and these young people are leaving with smiles on their faces, it’s the best reward and impact you could possibly ask for.”

Matt Collins, General Manager, Good Spaces

Changing Market Perceptions

The breakthrough here goes far beyond our own balance sheet. This partnership has shifted broader market perceptions by proving that a social enterprise can meet the most rigorous commercial standards without compromising on quality, reliability, or scale.

Together, we have created a repeatable blueprint for the industry: grant funding to build capability, internal advocacy to unlock access, and procurement to scale impact.

A massive thank you to the team at Stockland for their belief in our mission and their ongoing collaboration.
