Organic Waste Collection & Specialised Logistics
Australians throw away 7.3 million tonnes of food every year. Add garden organics and the average rubbish bin contains about 50% of organic waste dumped in landfill. This creates methane as it decomposes, a greenhouse gas about 80 times more potent than CO2. Organic matter is rich in nutrients so proper recycling minimises unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions, whilst converting into a rich compost for gardens.
Our Good Deliveries team collects organic waste from commercial venues and delivers to local council facilities for proper recycling. We do this using our fleet of cargo e-bicycles to save CO2 emissions along with noise and traffic congestion.
We also deliver the green FOGO bin liners for councils, to help their residents play their role in keeping their community clean.
For our staff involved, this work has been impactful in more personal ways.
“This job has given me purpose and a reason to wake up in the morning so I’m very grateful for that,” says a Good Cycles YEP participant. Before joining the program, he hadn’t finished school and it was hard for him to find work. He was struggling. “I just didn’t believe in myself,” he said. Working has built up his confidence and after working with Good Cycles for six years, he has now joined Citywide as a permanent employee.
Our team collects an average of 900 kg of organic waste every day.

In 2022, we partnered with City of Melbourne and their service provider Citywide in an organic waste collection trial starting with two businesses, who diverted 2 tonnes of food waste in the first month.
The trial quickly grew to over 30 restaurants and cafes participating, diverting an average of almost 25 tonnes a month, without the use of bulky roadside bin collections and emission intensive heavy vehicles.
Local business sentiment has been overwhelmingly positive and there are plans to grow the program further. Participating businesses say having cyclists, rather than trucks, collect their food waste makes a significant daily difference for them, their customers and local residents.
Our innovative solution to this significant urban problem has been recognised by awards across the country, including as a Finalist in the Third Sector Awards in the Sustainability Leadership category.
We’ve even been acknowledged internationally in Canada’s TV5 ‘Espèces d’ordures’ (Talking Trash), a program that celebrates innovative waste management from around the world (set to air late June 2025)!

Since 2023, we’ve delivered City of Melbourne residents bin liners for their food and garden organics (FOGO) waste.
Delivering 10,000 parcels over 3 weeks, this important service allows residents to correctly recycle their green waste, helping their community stay green, healthy and clean.
In 2025, working alongside Good Cycles coaches and staff, this service provided hours for three YEP participants and provided work for three more young people, two who later joined Good Cycles as ongoing staff.

Special requirements are a strength of ours. We care for your parcels from receipt to delivery, handling all parcels by hand.

Our bikes are fitted with large secure and weatherproof cargo boxes.
What does that all mean? Your parcels will have a smooth, stable ride (better than in a ute or delivery van) and be hand delivered by staff who care.
